Richard Hallows

Senior Interface Developer / CSS Specialist

Over twelve years' experience developing websites for leading design agencies and web apps for innovative start-ups.

A freelancer for ten years, during which time I've worked on award-winning (Cannes CyberLions, FWA's Site of the Month and D&AD Yellow Pencils) projects for clients including Google Creative Lab and GEOX at agencies like Stinkdigital.

Prior to this, I was the Interface Lead at Tonic, where I worked on creative projects for the likes of London Fashion Week and Rankin.

Over the past three years, I have specialised in CSS architecture. Advising development teams on maintainable CSS for their React and Angular based web apps. I also provide consultancy on responsive website design (RWD) and progressive enhancement (PE). Two processes that I think remain at the heart of any modern web project.

Recently, I co-authored stylelint—a modern and open source CSS linter. Written in JavaScript for Node.js and used by GitHub and Facebook.

Richard did great work for us in pulling apart our spaghetti front-end codebase and giving us the tools to put it back together in a clear and maintainable way. He gave us our Design System, which we still use, and which forms the backbone of our site structure. Highly recommended.
